And now, in 2017, Ali Hassan will be the first person in the 10-year history of the event to host the entire Awards show! Ali Hassan is a comedian, actor and television and radio personality.
On television, Ali recently starred in an episode of Designated Survivor on ABC and he will be on VICE’s upcoming show, Fubar. In the past year, he has appeared as a recurring character on FXX’s Man Seeking Woman, PBS Kids’ Odd Squad and CTV’s Cardinal.
CBC fans will recognize Ali as the host of Laugh Out Loud (CBC Radio One, SiriusXM) and the host of the nationally televised annual battle of the books, Canada Reads. Ali is also a frequent guest-host of q, the leading arts and culture program in Canada, reaching an audience of 3 million people weekly across North America.
Ali is a comedy festival favorite who honed his solo show, Muslim Interrupted, on a 26 date run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016. Since that time, he has been touring the show across Canada. He has performed 16 shows in 12 Canadian cities, including at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal. This show has become as much about entertaining audiences as it is about informing them – something especially pertinent opposite the current global political and social climate.
